Description and applications
Stratex chemical absorbent socks come in a carton of eight flexible tubes, each measuring 80 millimetres wide by three metres long. The bright yellow cover makes them easy to spot during an emergency, while the high-capacity fill draws in aggressive fluids quickly. They are built to handle acids, bases, solvents and other dangerous liquids without breaking down, so the mess stays contained until it can be disposed of safely.
These socks cope with sudden leaks, steady drips and larger puddles that appear around tanks, pipework or process equipment. Because the outer skin is tough yet pliable, the tube can be bent into curves or wrapped tight against a machine base to stop fluid from spreading across the floor. The fast wicking action pulls the liquid into the core, reducing the chance of vapour release or secondary contamination.
Typical settings include research facilities, healthcare buildings and bulk chemical depots where corrosive or flammable substances are stored or transferred. Workers lay the socks around drum pallets, beneath valve packs or along bund walls to catch any escape before it reaches walkways or drains. After use, the saturated units are bagged and sent for approved hazardous waste disposal.
