Each layer uses a pick-and-pluck grid that requires no knives or templates. You press out only the squares needed for the item at hand, leaving the surrounding foam intact to cushion impacts from drops or vibration. The convoluted lid foam holds the top layer firm, while the base and middle sections absorb the heavier knocks that come with daily load-in and load-out cycles. Because the foam is cut to the case interior, there is no loose packing material to lose or replace.
